Mr. John R. “Jackie” Jimeson, age 84 , of the Pleasant Gardens community, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Mountain Ridge Health and Rehabilitaion following a period of declining health. A native of McDowell County, Jackie was born on March 23, 1934 to the late John Ray Jimeson, Sr. and Minnie Lee Rader Jimeson. Upon graduating from Pleasant Gardens High School (as Valedictorian of his class), he went on to Western Carolina University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.

He then enlisted in the U. S. Navy during which time he served his country faithfully. After returning to Marion he married the love of his life, Jane Shiflet Jimeson, to whom he would be married 61 years. Jackie then entered into the family business in Marion, Jimeson’s Hardware, where he served the needs of his community well for many years.

He was an avid bridge player and bowler, pursuing both not only in McDowell County but at their adopted second home in Florida. Jackie was a member of Garden Creek Baptist Church. A great-granddaughter, Brielle Faith Jimeson, preceded him in death.

He leaves behind, in addition to his beloved wife Jane, five children, John Ray Jimeson, III and wife Lois of Spruce Pine, Ermon Yvette Jimeson Gerrity and husband Jim of Orange Park, FL, Jeff Jimeson and wife Rita of Pleasant Gardens, Jerry Shiflet Jimeson and former wife Rachael, of Spruce Pine and Union Mills, respectively, and Sarah Gwyndolyn Jimeson Wong and husband Jack of Leander, TX; a sister, Sarah Jeanette Jimeson McAllister and husband Garth of Walled Lake, MI; nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous step-great and great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Coy Jeans and Rev.

Don White officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites, will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated, however, those desiring to make a memorial contribution in his memory are encouraged to consider Garden Creek Baptist Church at 321 Garden Creek Road, Marion, NC 28752.
