On the morning of Saturday, October 6, 2018 while surrounded by her loving family, Shirley Marie Johnston, age 72, passed away at her residence in Marion. Born in Middle County, New Jersey on February 8, 1946, she was the son of the late James and Louise Clark Poteat. She was preceded in death by, in addition to her parents, two sisters, Frances Taylor and Doris Allison.

Shirley was an avid traveler who enjoyed being outdoors; and truly loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Robert D. Johnston; four children, Donna Allison (Dennis Ward) of Marion, Randy Allison (Stephanie) of Nebo, Alan Allison (Michelle) of Beckley, West Virginia and Ronnie Allison of Marion; one sister, Betty Brown (Larry) of Marion; and very special cousin, Pat Bolick (Tommy) of Marion. Shirley is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Justin Jaynes, Dani Ward, R.J. Allison, Ken Parton, Kayla Allison, Alexis Allison, Marcus Allison, Hayes Allison, Mary Grace Allison, Jada Allison, Harley Allison and Carter Allison; four great grandchildren, Ayden Jaynes, Olivia Jaynes, Parker Hollywood and Rylan Allison; a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and special canine, Pixie Marie Johnston.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastor Donald Johnston officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.
