Walter “Major” Sisk, age 82, of Old Fort, passed away at Mission Hospital St. Joseph Campus in Asheville, NC on Saturday, November 24, 2018. Being the last of seven children, Major was born in McDowell County on May 1, 1936 to the late Tom Sisk and Lizzy Summey. He always loved travel to Altapass and Old Fort to listen to music, and visiting friends and family.

Major had a passion of collecting equipment, and always enjoyed to watch a good western. Major is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia “Gin” Sisk; and two sons Dennis Lee Sisk, and Ricky Randy Sisk. Left behind to cherish his memory are his four children, sons Tommy Ray Sisk of Edgecomb, SC, Mikey Sisk Sr. of Conover, NC, a daughter Kathy Sisk Fortner and husband Ronnie of Old Fort, and son Wayne Sisk of Conover, NC; and nine Grandchildren, twenty-seven Great Grandchildren, and five Great-Great Grandchildren.

A visitation is planned for Thursday, November 29, 2018 in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Old Fort from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. with Rev Jeff Parker officiating. The funeral service will follow the visitation in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Old Fort at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Salem Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
