Cary “C.W.” Wells Poole, age 89, of Nebo, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC. He was born in McDowell County on August 30, 1929 to the late Carey W. Poole and Bessie Dean Poole. Cary served honorably in the United States Marine Corps where he obtained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and retired after twenty years of service.

He also retired from the Dixie Containers plant in Morganton, NC. Cary was an avid fisherman. Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving wife Helen Morris Poole of 58 years; two daughters, Lisa Michelle Poole of the home, and Lora Poole Whitener, and husband Wynn of Morganton; and two Grandsons, Zane and Cameron Whitener, both of Morganton.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. The funeral service will be held following the visitation with Rev Dennis Love officiating. Interment will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the United States Marine Corps.
