Mrs. Norma Anthony Hollifield, age 78, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2018 at her son’s home in Marion. Norma was born on June 5, 1940 in Swain County to the late Ivan D. “Ike” Anthony and Emma McClure Anthony. When she was three years old the family moved to McDowell County when construction of the Fontana Dam began.

She worked for a time at Washington Mills and later retired from Baxter Healthcare. “Granny”, as her family lovingly referred to her, was a kindhearted, humble lady, always concerned with the needs of others over her own. She devoted much of her time after she retired to caring for the elderly and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed hiking and doing odd jobs for her friends. A Baptist, Norma always enjoyed the different ministers who would hold services at the Blue Ridge Terrace Apartments where she lived for several years. She was a friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her husband of 38 years, Rass Hollifield, and a son, Kent Hollifield, preceded her in death. Left to mourn their loss, but joyful in the knowledge that she is now with her Lord are her loving son and his wife, Chuck and Sheila Hollifield of Marion; her brother, Ellis Anthony and his wife Rosa Marie of Dysartsville; two sisters, Eloise Anthony of Nebo and Algerine Gouge of Marion; two grandchildren, Debbie and Travis Hollifield; four great-grandchildren, Brianna, J.P., Natalie and Little Travis; and two great-great-grandchildren, Haven and Myla. A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Rev.

Johnny Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 12:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Turkey Cove Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Rass.

Flowers are acceptable and appreciated, however, those desiring to make a memorial contribution in her memory are encouraged to consider the Lion’s Club for the work they do helping the vision impaired. The address for the Lion’s Club International is 300 W. 22nd Street, Oak Brook, IL 60523-8842.
