Mrs. Jane H. Miller, age 99, a resident of Flesher’s Rest Home in Fairview, N. C. died on Monday, November 12, 2018 after an extended illness. A former resident of Marion, Jane was the wife of Dr. Lloyd D. Miller who passed away in 1979. Dr. Miller practiced medicine in Marion, the Navy and the VA for 32 years.

The Millers’ were married for 37 years. Jane was a Registered Nurse. She was a Diploma Graduate of “old” Rex Hospital on St. Mary’s Street in Raleigh, in November 1940.

Her duties included Supervisor of the Emergency Department and Infectious Disease Control. She left nursing to help Dr. Miller set up his office practice on Fleming Avenue next to Marion General Hospital. Jane raised two sons, Lloyd, Jr. (Jackie) who passed in 2002, and David, in her welcoming home on Montevista Avenue – beside close neighbors and friends.

Jane is survived by her younger son, David Hartsell Miller, wife Yvonne; grandson Cameron Lloyd Miller, his mother, Revertia – all of Asheville. Time with her only grandchild, being known as “Gam”, was the love of her retirement as she spent many hours with Cameron. Jane was the last of nine siblings, of Dr. Flavius G. Hartsell, and wife, Mary, of Oakboro, in Stanly County, N.C. Her family has numerous beloved nieces/nephews and grandnieces/nephews across Eastern North Carolina.

A devoted Christian, Jane was the oldest member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion where she was active for fifty-six years. She was a member of the Ada Workman Ladies Sunday School Class and sang in the church choir. Jane was a member of the Marion Hospital Auxiliary, a Tuesday Morning Lady Golfer at the Marion Lake Club, and a former member at Lake Tahoma.

A graveside Commitment Service will be conducted by Pastor Jacob Douylliez at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at McDowell Memorial Park, Marion, N.C. The family will greet there. Arrangements are conducted by Westmoreland Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to the Staff Christmas Fund, Flesher’s Rest Home, P. O. Box 1160, Fairview, N.C., 28750, in appreciation of their compassionate care.
