Ruby Fender Walker , September 09, 1930 — December 26, 2018

Ruby Fender Walker, age 88, of Marion went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in McDowell County on September 9, 1930 to the late Rev. Grady and Sadie Fender.

Ruby was full of life, and loved her family and friends with everything in her. She was also a member of Greenlee Baptist Church, but most of all was a true child of God. She is preceded in death by her husband William Harley Walker, and daughter Betty Ann Walker Robinson.

Ruby leaves behind a son-in-law, Rick Robinson, and wife Cathy of Valdese, their children Scott Robinson, and wife Sherry of Valdese, and Brent Robinson, and wife Dee of Lake Norman, NC; Daughter Janice Walker Painter, and long-time family friend David Ditt, and her children, Chris Painter, and wife Alisha of Marion, and Amanda Painter Robertson, and husband Robby of Jonesborough, TN; and daughter Vickey Walker Justice, and husband Gary of Marion, and their children John T. Justice, and wife K.T. of Sasebo, Japan, and Jeana Justice, and fiancé Greg Buchanan of Marion; two sisters, Ruth Fender Lavender of Old Fort, and Mary Fender Reel, and husband Earl of Marion; a number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home of Marion. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Coy Jeans officiating.

Burial will be held privately at a later date. Because of the compassionate care that Ruby and her family received, the family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills at P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
