Barbara Williams Young of Marion passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Hospice of Carolina Foothills, Forest City, NC. She was born September 12, 1930, in McDowell County. Mrs. Young is survived by her daughter, Sharon Young Kirton and husband, Gerald of Greenville, South Carolina; son, Thomas Steven Young and wife, Joanna of Morganton, North Carolina; grandchildren, Annette Young Bodie and husband Scottie, of Laurens, South Carolina; Joseph Earnest Kirton and wife Erin, of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Margaret Alden Young and husband, Justin of Seattle, Washington; Thomas Alden Young and wife, Jessica Todd of Haverhill, Massachusetts; sister, Betty Willliams Kiker of Sunset Beach, North Carolina; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Marshall Young; parents, Nellie Holtsclaw Williams and J.L. Williams and three brothers. Private graveside services will be held at McDowell Memorial Park on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 31 College Place, Asheville, North Carolina, 28801 Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
