Luther Holland, age 87, of Marion, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City while surrounded by his loving family. A native of McDowell County, Luther was born on January 13, 1931 to the late Frank Holland and Hattie Vaughn Holland. He was retired from Broyhill Furniture Industries, where he was a supervisor.

Luther was a very hard-working man, who built his house himself, and loved to garden. He was a loving husband, who loved his boys and raised them well. He was a Paw Paw to many, regardless of blood relation.

Luther was also a member of Catawba Heights Baptist Church, and had a passion for gardening. Preceding him in death just five months ago was his loving wife of almost 68 years, Mary Hobbs Holland; a son Doug Holland; and a granddaughter Amy Parker. Left behind to cherish his memory are three sons, Kenny Holland and wife Hazel of Marion, Terry Holland and wife Gina of Marion , and Dennis Holland of Mars Hill; a brother, Clarence Holland and wife Beluah of Marion, two sisters, Naomi Hensley of Marion, and Estelle Rhinehart of Marion; eight grandchildren, Dana Ingoglia and husband Johnny of Winston Salem, Chad Holland of Marion, Ashley Holland of Hickory, Dustin Parker and wife Misty of New Bern, Gioia Holland and significant other Levi Pittman of Marion, Tisa Parker and Husband Jerry of Marion, Melissa Lowery of Marion, and Amy Davis and husband Lucus of Marion; eighteen great grandchildren; and three great-great grandsons.

The family will receive friends at Westmoreland Funeral home in Marion on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
