Obituary for MaryEllen Ashe (Martin) Mary Ellen (Martin) Ashe, 76, wife of John J. Ashe, of Newington, peacefully passed away September 7, 2018 in Avery Heights. She was born in Hartford on July 12, 1942, daughter of the late John and Madeline (Guthrie) Martin. She was a graduate of Bulkeley High School, Class of 1960.

Mary Ellen then worked at the Travelers Insurance Co. and SNET. She and John were married in May 1964. Soon after they moved to Newington and she dedicated her life to raising her children.

When they were older, she joined Northeast Utilities as a Secretary until retirement. Mary Ellen loved Irish music and attending the events at the Irish American Home Society. She and John loved to travel and drove to Florida every year for ten years.

She was a big Red Sox and UConn Women’s Basketball fan and also loved animals and her many pet parakeets. Mary Ellen greatly cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mary Ellen leaves her four children, Ann Marie Bosse and Mark of East Berlin, Susan Dudley and her husband Dane of Wethersfield, Brian Ashe and his wife Susan of Windsor and Michael Ashe and his wife Wendy of Berlin.

She will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Kimberly, Kathleen and Mark Bosse, Kevin, Jack and Katie Dudley and Kerry and Ryan Ashe and her sister-in-law Dr. Norah Lusignan of Westfield, MA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary Ellen also valued her many friendships over the years, especially Denis and Chrissie Shannon, Judy Perrotta and Eileen Griffin. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Noreen Droney and her husband James and her brother John B. Martin.

Mary Ellen’s family would like to thank the many staff members of Avery Heights who have taken care of her over the last 3 years, especially Kristen, Opal and Lorna. Friends may call on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. , Wethersfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mary Ellen’s life will be at 10:00 am on Monday, September 10, 2018 in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St Wethersfield. Burial will be in West Meadow Cemetery, 679 Willard Ave, Newington. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Connecticut, 200 Executive Blvd S, # 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
