Maureen Janet Berls Weaver October 05, 1939 – June 19, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Maureen Janet Berls Weaver 1939 – 2018 Maureen passed peacefully at home on June 19, 2018, after a courageous five-year battle with ovarian cancer. Maureen was born on October 5, 1939, in Selden, KS, to the late Edward (Ted) and Eulalia Pauls Berls. She was also preceded in death by her sister Patricia Berls Bacon.

Maureen graduated high school in Oberlin, KS in 1957. She studied one year at Marymount College in Salina, KS before attending Kansas State University from 1958 to 1961, graduating with a BA in English and a minor in Spanish. While attending K-State she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

Maureen moved to Denver and taught school at Kunsmiller Junior High School. She married Malcolm Weaver on August 5, 1967. They moved to the bay area in 1969, and lived in Tiburon, CA and eventually Alameda, CA.

Maureen taught English and Spanish at Bret Harte Junior High School in Oakland, CA for many years before purchasing the Travel Shoppe in Alameda, CA, in 1979. She spent the next 39 years building a highly respected business selling travel, counseling clients on vacations, honeymoons and company travel. She served on the Board of the Willows and also The Boys and Girls Club in Alameda.

Passions of Maureen include being an Oakland Raider fan, cooking, golf, playing bridge, getting together with friends and clients and of course, traveling! Maureen is survived by her husband Malcolm, stepchildren Joel, John, Bruce (Brenda) Weaver and Lisa (Philip) Gosselin, sisters Marlene (Duane) Weigel, Hays, KS. Jan Berls, Indiana, PA.

Cynthia Berls, Alameda, CA and brother Gerald (Maria) Berls, Ellis, KS. She will also be missed by many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and nephews and friends. A private funeral mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
