1939—2018 Maxine E Hand, 79 of Napa Ca passed away on Wednesday June 6, 2018 at The Queen of The Valley Hospital. Maxine was born in Northville, Michigan on April 16,1939 to L.Wayne and Ruth (Montgomery) Brown. Her brother Bob was born in 1942 and sister, Terri Lynn in 1956.

Her childhood was spent in many places Michigan, California, Washington, and Alaska. She graduated from West High School in 1957 in Bremerton Washington. Maxine married Richard Hand in April 1958 in Michigan.

They welcomed daughter Laurie in 1959, sons Michael in 1960 and Mark in 1963. In August 1970 Maxine decided to go to nursing school in North Carolina. She packed up 3 kids and left Fairbanks, Alaska for a 3 year adventure in Fletcher North Carolina.

She graduated in 1973 with her RN degree. Moving to Napa in early 1974 she worked at a couple of different nursing facilities before starting at the Veterans Home in Yountville where she worked for 26 years before retiring. During retirement Max enjoyed traveling, luncheons with the Red Hat Ladies and retired nurse’s and volunteering at Community Services.

Maxine is survived by her children, daughter Laurie McCord, and sons Michael and Mark Hand, 7 grandchildren—Ethan McCord, Brian McCord (Angela), Ashley Davis (Ron), Erin Walker (Joey), Timothy Hand, Scott Hand (Brittaney) and Austin Owens-Hand. She also leaves behind 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. She was pre-deceased by her parents, sister and grandson Kevin McCord.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 3pm at the Napa Community Seventh-Day Adventist Church -1105 G St. Napa Ca. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to: Napa Christian Campus of Education worthy student fund 2201 Pine St. Napa CA 94558 Community Service C/O Napa Community SDA Church 1105 G St. Napa CA 94558 or a charity of your choice.
