Maxine H. Hamsher, 88, of Beatrice died at her home on Sunday, March 24, 2019. She was born November 18, 1930 to Herbert and Hazel (Wilkinson) Hamsher. Max was the eldest of two daughters.

Her sister’s name was Eunice (Hamsher) Knollenberg. Maxine lived with her parents until she moved to BSDC on February 19, 1951 at the age of 20 after her father’s death in 1948. Max had a wonderful life at BSDC, and had many friends that loved her and her sweet demeanor.

Max’s mother and sister remained very active in her life until their deaths in 1993 and 1983 respectively. Maxine’s niece, Shirley Knapple continued to remain involved in her life and served as legal guardian for Maxine. Maxine was well known as a beautiful woman who had great style and class.

She loved wearing jewelry, coloring, math projects, writing letters, going to the beauty shop, listening to music, attending music events, playing the piano, church, Bingo, family visits and looking at books and magazines. Many staff at BSDC grew to be a part of her family. Her roommate of many years was also very important to her.

Maxine will forever be remembered as a sweet, smart and unique woman who touched the lives of many. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Hazel (Wilkinson) Hamsher and her sister Eunice (Hamsher) Knollenberg. Survivors include niece, Shirley Knapple; great-niece, Carly Knapple and family; nephew, Bob Knollenberg and great-nephew, Ryan Knollenberg; special friend Jacque.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Wyuka Cemetery of Lincoln. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 P.M. at the All Faiths Chapel on the BSDC Campus with Verla Dorn officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation.
