Obituary Melva B. West October 7, 1925 – February 15, 2019 Melva Marie Barham West, 93, died peacefully at her home in Boerne, Texas on February 15, 2019. Melva was born in Cumberland, Maryland on October 7, 1925, daughter of Miles and Sarah Spier Barham. Melva graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1947 with majors in English and Business Education.

She married James Robert “Bob” West on September 24, 1950, in Hartstown, PA. She taught English and Business at Conneaut Lake High School for many years and later in her teaching career at several business colleges. She was an excellent and creative seamstress and established and operated a drapery and interior design business in Conneaut Lake, PA and when living in Coppell, TX she decorated model apartments with her daughter for over 20 years.

Some of her happiest moments were teaching her granddaughters and great-granddaughters how to sew! She recently moved to Boerne to be near family and just loved living in the Hill Country. Survivors in addition to her husband, Bob, include a son, Don West and his partner Jan Clark of Orlando, FL, and daughter Jean Lobsinger and her husband Ken of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX.

Melva had six granddaughters: Jessica Weisel and her husband Dan of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX, Erin Hellberg and her husband Thomas of Dallas, TX, Rachel Franck and her husband Andrew of N. Richland Hills, TX, Molly and her husband Rob of Atlanta, GA, Danielle Lobsinger of Austin, TX, and Rebecca West of New York City; five great-grandchildren: Lauren, Evelyn and Abigail Weisel, Palmer Hellberg, and Charlotte Franck; two sisters: Frances Sperry of Atlantic, PA and Nila Bush of Jamestown, PA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Brian; two brothers George and Donald; and her sister Tharon Beard. To send flowers to the family of Melva B. West, please visit Tribute Store.
