OBITUARY Melvin Clarence Whitman February 25, 1923 – January 19, 2019 Melvin Clarence Whitman passed away at the age of 95 on Saturday, January 19, 2019. He is survived by his beloved wife Eleanora Rihner Whitman after 75 years of marriage. Loving father of Russell G. Whitman (Nancy), Thomas G. Whitman and Matthew G. Whitman.

Grandfather of Sandra W. Pearce (Wesley) and Katie W. Genna (Johnny). He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren. Melvin was the son of the late Harold A. Whitman and Clara J. Schott.

A native of New Orleans, LA from birth and a resident of Metairie, LA for over 74 years. Mr. Whitman was a United States Marine and WWII Veteran. He retired from Illinois Central Railroad after 41 years.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing and golf. We would like to thank the staff of the Southeast Louisiana Veteran’s Home in Reserve, LA for their care and kindness.
