Melvin H. Evers, 87, of Beatrice died at his home on Friday, April 27, 2018. He was born April 28, 1930 at Cortland and was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. He grew up on the farm near Filley and attended rural school and Filley High School.

He worked in a cabinet shop, Wiebe’s Dairy, Gage County Maintenance Department and Beatrice Public Schools. He was a long-time member of Jay Husker Antique Auto Club and a member of F.O.E. Aerie #531 both of Beatrice. He enjoyed working in his shop, antique cars, visiting with family and friends and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Emma of Beatrice; two sons, Dale (Cindy) Evers and Duane (Donna) Evers; two daughters, Shirleen (Bruce) Schwisow and Sharon (Nick) Vrtiska; seven grandchildren, Shannon (Shane) Wilson, Craig (Lisa) Evers, Michelle (Eric) Bartels, Jill (Matt) Strouf, Jamie (Jay) Weber, Corey Vrtiska, Angie (A.J.) Brown; nine great-grandchildren, Tyler and Morgan Fralin, Dalaney Evers, Axley and Oakley Strouf, Paizley, Blakely and Maddox Weber and Noah and Evalee Brown; six step-great-grandchildren, Haleigh Newman, Parker Brown, Josh and Tanner Wilson, Paige and Jamie Bartels; two step-great-great-grandchildren, Kinzlee Newman and Melah Osienger; one brother-in-law, Melvin (Sharon) Zimmerman; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Evers, Elsie Zimmerman and Gwen Zimmerman; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Waltke Evers; one brother, Arnold Evers; five brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 1:30 P.M. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor Kathee Forrest officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice.

A family prayer service will be held 1:15 P.M. at the church on Wednesday. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with Larry and Diane Cole in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 12:00 noon Monday until 9:00 P.M. Tuesday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Wednesday.
