Obituary for Melvin “Jug” Hayes Melvin W. “Jug” Hayes, age 96, a resident of Gloversville died Thursday May 10, 2018 at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville. He was born in Bleecker, NY on March 25, 1922. The son of the late Jasper and Rosina Walther Hayes.

He was a graduate of Gloversville High School class of 1940. He was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1943 to 1945 serving with the 10th Mountain Division. Jug was employed as a Textile worker for many years for GC Mills in Gloversville.

He was a member of the Bleecker Fish and Game Club and the Pinnacle Mountain Ridge Runners. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing. He skied until he was 87.

Survivors include his wife; Dorothy Werle Hayes of Gloversville whom he married on September 6, 1947. One son; Mark (Anita Brower) Hayes of Gloversville and one daughter; Lynn Hayes of Colorado. He is also survived by his beloved granddaughter; Maren Ondriska, son-in-law; William Ondriska and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers; Clarence and Kenneth Hayes and two sisters; Florence and Beatrice Baird. Family and friends are invited to visitation on Tuesday May 15, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gloversville Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave. , Gloversville where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Bleecker Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave. , Gloversville, the James A. Brennan Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.
