Obituary for Victoria I. Michalek Victoria Irene (Mead) Michalek, 98, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2018 after a brief illness. Vicky was born April 22, 1920, the 3rd of 5 daughters of the late Quincey Mead and the late Ethel (Chapin) Mead. Vicky graduated Gloversville High School Class of 1938 and the Nathan Littauer Nursing School Class of 1941.

She worked at the Nathan Littauer Hospital starting during WWII until 1976 when she retired from the hospital and went to Dr. Donald Wilsey’s office where she worked until she retired at the age of 80. Vicky kept busy with bowling and danced as a member of the “Country Round Square Association – The Countrymen” and the “Adirondack Fiddlers Club”. She was an active member of the Nathan Littauer Nursing School Alumni Organization and The Silhouette Card Club.

Vicky finished the Freihofer’s Run for Women, the renowned 5K race, for the 3rd time in 2011at age 91. Vicky was a breast cancer survivor for over 15 years. Vicky is survived by her six children, Thomas John Michalek Jr. (Kathy Zwijacz), Ann Michalek-Harazin (Marcus A.), Lucy (Michalek) Buhrmaster (Ron Rizzo), Joan Michalek, Joseph Michalek (Tami) and Paul Michalek (Stacey); her grandchildren, Selena, Donald, Denice, Kyle, Garret, Jennifer, Shawn, Belynda, and Marcus E.; great-grandchildren, Halie, Kate, Brooke and Edwyn (Wynn); her sister, Rosalie (Mead) Buyce (Lester) of Winter Haven, FL.

; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and dear friends. She was married to and predeceased by Thomas John Michalek and 2nd husband Stephen Joseph Michalek. Also predeceased are three sisters, Geraldine (Mead) Fosmire (David), Beatrice “Bea” (Mead) Simons (Preston), Ethel “Lucia” Mead (Lucy) and her longtime partner, W. “Roy” Pearsall.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday October 29, 2018 at the Gloversville Funeral Service from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday October 30, 2018 at the Church of the Holy Spirit at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. The family extends a sincere thank you to the caring staff at The Sentinel of Amsterdam, NY where Vicky was a resident from February 2018. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110.
