She worked at Nestle’s in Salinas and was an active member in the Filipino Community and the Lions Club. She enjoyed singing, playing bingo, taking care of her pet dogs and, foremost, being with her family. Her friendliness and good sense of humor endeared her to everyone she met and she will be missed.

Mercedes was preceded in death by her ex-husbands, Herlito Nicolas and Vincent Cauntay, her mother and stepfather Genoveva and Epitacio (Pete) Curaza, her brother Joseph Caletisen, father and stepmother Antonio and Maria Caletisen. She is survived by her stepchildren, Archie (Ogie) Cauntay, Byron (Anabel) Cauntay, Cherly (Dave) Dagang, Daisy Parcasio, and children, Manuel (Robin) Cauntay, Fred (Patty) Cauntay, Grace (Jeff) Nilsen, Howard (Janet) Cauntay, Irene (Phil) Cumisky and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Chapel Services on Friday, December 21, 2018, 11:00 AM, at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA.
