Mildred L. Talbert, 94, of Yorktown, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at her home in rural Yorktown. Mildred was born on October 3, 1923 in Shelbyville, Indiana to the late Frank and Edna (Zimmerman) Kirschbaum. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1941.

Mildred was a farmer’s daughter and farmer’s wife. She had worked for Gaston Elementary School Cafeteria, Imperial Kitchen Cabinets, and Pizza King. Mildred was a member of the Evangelical Church of Shelbyville and attended the Gaston United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing cards, and word searches. Mildred is survived by three children, Michael Talbert (wife Carolyn) of Wetumpka, AL, Terri Adams (husband Charles) of Yorktown, and Linda Herndon of Yorktown; seven grandchildren, Jonathon Herndon of Ft. Wayne, Morgan Griffith (husband Jacob) of Muncie, Charles Adams Jr. of Wisconsin, David Adams of Wabash, John Adams (wife Geri) of Ormond Beach, FL, Tamara Payton (husband Dain) of Wallsboro, AL, and Nicholas Beasley of Lake Worth, FL; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Gracie.

Mildred was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Kirschbaum and his wife Wilma Mae, and Frankie Kirschbaum and his wife Saundra; a son-in-law, Jeff Herndon; and former husband, Denzil Talbert. A funeral service to celebrate Mildred’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel at 109 W. Elm St. in Gaston, Indiana. Pastor John Lutton will officiate.

Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery in Shelbyville, IN. Friends and family may gather to share and remember her from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 16, 2018 and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospice or IU Health Ball Memorial Cancer Center, both at 2400 W. University Blvd.
