Mildred “Mickey” (Walker) Sommers January 19, 1919 – January 29, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card Mildred ”Mickey” (Walker) Sommers, 100, of Salem, NH passed away on Tuesday, January 29th, 2019 at Windham Terrace. She was born on January 19, 1919 in Methuen, MA to the late Tristram and Anna (Knopf) Walker. Mickey attended local schools, graduated from Searles High School, and went on to graduate from Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing.

Following graduation, she joined the United States Army Air Corp and served as a Registered Nurse in WWII. Mickey met her husband, Lester “Jim” Sommers at the Commodore Ballroom in St. Petersburg, FL and the two were married in 1946. They began their family and Mickey continued her nursing career at the Mount Park Hospital.

While living in Florida, she and her family enjoyed many happy weekends and vacations boating and camping. Mickey and Jim moved their family to Salem, NH in 1963 and she went to work at Lawrence General Hospital. After retirement, she and her husband took up skiing and traveled the east coast in their camper.

In her spare time, she loved baking, knitting, crocheting, gardening and enjoying the pool with friends and family. She really enjoyed bowling and lunch with her sister Betty. Mickey is survived by her two children and their spouses, James and Irene Sommers of Windham, NH and Roseanna and Kenneth Galvin of Dracut, MA; two grandchildren, Sean Galvin and Stefanie Lynch; one sister, Betty Murray of Salem, NH; and four great-grandchildren, Shane, Connor, Riley, and Collin.

In addition to her parents, Mildred is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Jim and four of her siblings. There will be no services. Arrangements are in the care of the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087.
