Obituary of Mildred Trojan Mildred K. Trojan 1913 – 2018 New York Mills Mildred K. Trojan, 105, of New York Mills, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Presbyterian Home for Central New York. She was born in New York Mills on March 22, 1913, the daughter of Stanley and Caroline Drozd Kantor. She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and graduated as salutatorian from New York Mills High School, where she captained the girls’ basketball team.
On May 20, 1946, she married Milford Trojan in Saint Mary’s Church in New York Mills. They shared a loving union for over 62 years. Milford predeceased her in 2008.
Mildred was employed as a forelady by Utica Knitting Company and its successor, Flagg-Utica Corporation, for 22 years. In 1955, she and her husband Milford were appointed as House Parents of the Abbott-McGinty Detention Home. Mildred was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church.
She was an active member of the Ladies of Utica Assembly of the Knights of Columbus where she held several elective offices, chaired numerous committees, and was in charge of many events. She was known for her outstanding organizational skills. She was also a member of the Orchard Lake Auxiliary, West Side Utica Seniors, the Guild of Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, the Woman’s Bowling Association, and a director of the Flagg-Utica Corporation Plant 2 Credit Union.
A talented athlete, she was the manager of the Falconettes, a women’s team sponsored by the Polish Falcons Club. She enjoyed bowling, swimming, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Outgoing, kind, caring, energetic, and industrious, Mildred was a remarkable woman whose warmth and loving spirit touched the lives of many.
Hers was a life of service, generosity, and excellence. Her family will deeply mourn her passing. Mildred was pre-deceased by her husband, Milford; six brothers, John, Leo, Walter, Przemyslaw, Theodore and Adolph; and by one sister, Jane Kurkowski.
Surviving are one sister, Felicia Dziwis of Utica; one brother, Frank Kantor (Mary) of Auburn, AL; her nieces, Janice Langdon (John) of Manlius, Leslie Holmberg (Charles) of Liverpool, Michele Shields (Robert) of Niskayuna, Carolyn DiScenna (Pascal) of Broadview Heights, OH, Mary Weins (Michael) of St. James, NC, and Rita Shaheen (Paul) of Kerhonkson; her nephews, Leon Kantor (Joyce) of Orchard Park, Gregory Dziwis of Utica, Paul Dziwis (Diane) of Pittsford, Hugh Phillips (Betty) of Acworth, GA, Gregory Phillips (Susan) of Marietta, GA, Mark Kantor of Auburn, AL, Stephen Kantor of Windermere, FL, and John Dlugolecki (Vicki) of Burbank, CA; and several grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces, and great-grand-nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa, New York Mills. Those who wish may call at the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 284 Main St., New York Mills one hour prior to the mass.
Entombment will take place in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mildred’s name may be made to the Church of the Sacred Heart/St. Mary’s, 201 Main Street, New York Mills, NY 13417. 2 Timothy 4:7 I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.
