Mrs. Mona Coker Caraway, 85, wife of the late Harvey O’Neil Caraway, died Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Carolinas Hospital, after an illness. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Coward Church of God, Coward, with burial to follow at Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Coward. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, Monday, June 18, 2018, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton.

Mrs. Caraway was born December 31, 1932, in Olanta, daughter of the late Jessie Neil Coker and Linnie Yarborough Coker. Mona Caraway served as a hospital nurse’s aide at the Lake City Hospital, subsequently serving as the J.C. Lynch School “Nurse”, retiring from the Florence School District staff after 25 years of service. With family prioritized in her life, she still responded to the call of God for Kingdom work.

She was a dynamic Bible teacher, illustrator and revealer of God’s heart to humanity. Whether occupying the pulpits as guest speaker or one on one, she was anointed to relay God Word to everyone she met. Over a span of 60 years of serving God, she, along with her husband, Harvey, were instrumental in founding the Effingham Church of God in 1958, as well as being charter members and supporting the birth of the Coward Church of God in 1975.

Her exhaustive efforts to serve God and family will truly live on in the heart of both our lives and community. Surviving are her children, Lynn (Barry) Carr of Coward, Billy (Dixie) Caraway of Florence, Brenda (Kenny) Smith of Coward, LaRue (Rachell) Caraway of Mobile, AL, and Pamela (John) Strickland of Coward; daughter-in-law, Sybil C. Fields; twenty grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Mrs. Caraway preceded in death by a son, Harry J. Caraway; three sisters, Stella Young, Belma Goude, Vendella Young; three brothers, Garris Coker, Delbert Coker and David Coker.
