Monica Himes, 77 years old, passed away on her birthday at 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at her home. Monica was born on February 12, 1942 in Driffield, England to the late George Perry and Lily May (Witham) Janes. She has lived most of her life in Lakeville, IN.

On October 2, 1965 in London, England, Monica and Walter B. Himes were united in marriage. Walter preceded her in death on September 14, 2002. Also preceding her in death was her son, James Himes.

Monica worked as a respiratory practitioner. She and Walter loved children and enjoyed being foster parents. Monica is survived by her children, Tina Mewszel of Argos, Kristina Ortiz of Lakeville, Katherine McGrew of Lakeville, Jalisa McDonald of South Bend, Danielle Sater of South Bend, Janie White of South Bend, Monica Himes of Hobart, David Himes of Elkhart, Eric Himes of South Bend, Timothy Himes of Lakeville, Sean Himes of Lakeville, Tim Foust of Mishawaka, and Todd Foust of Kansas; step-son, John Pride of South Bend; and son-in-law, Monta Tutson.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Monica Fisher, Jenell Roney, Jeremy Himes, Victor Himes, Matthew Mewszel, Austin Mewszel, and many more. Monica was raised in England along with her four sisters, Sheelagh, Patricia, Bridget and Linda; and her four brothers, Andrew, Sean, Michael and John. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the Palmer Funeral Home, within the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Monica Himes may be donated to Michiana Hematology Oncology, 5340 Holy Cross Parkway, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Online condolences may be offered to Monica’s family at www. palmerfuneralhomes.com.
