Montez LaVerne Dees passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the age of 86 in Duncan, Oklahoma. She was born on November 23, 1931, in Fletcher. Her parents were Jim and Verma (Ford) Seymour.

Family visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 25, from 6:00-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 26, at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Elgin with Pastor Curtis Erwin officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday afternoon in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home. Montez attended Fletcher schools and graduated from Cyril High School in 1949. She married Martin David Dees on January 12, 1951, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

They had three children – Janie and twin sons, Don and John. David and John preceded her in death in 1999 and 2016, respectively. She was employed by Montgomery Ward as a sales clerk in the men’s department.

She later went to work at Haggar Slacks Company. After retirement, she and David enjoyed camping. After David’s passing, she became an avid fisherman who fished and jug-lined at Lake Ellsworth with her good friend, Buddy Huggins.

She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and going to garage sales, remaining active until a fall in 2017. Montez is survived by her children, Janie and husband Clyde Shaw of Duncan and Don and wife Janet Dees of Athens, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Janice Dees of Richardson, Texas; 7 grandchildren, David Shaw, Damon and wife Amber Dees, Jessie and husband Chris Lowery, Jennifer Shaw, Daniel Dees, Jeannie and husband Grant McAfee, and Johnna Dees; 7 great grandchildren, Rylan Shaw, Dalton Dees, Carson Dees, Presley Lowery, Hudson Lowery, Kayson McAfee, and Macie McAfee; sister, Judy Sue Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Dees; son, John Dees; parents, Jim and Verma Seymour; brothers, Thomas Calvin Seymour, James Edward Seymour, Charles Lee Seymour, Alvin Ray Seymour, William Jackson Seymour, Walter Robert Seymour, and Larry George Seymour; and sisters, Virginia Louise Johnson, Betty Jo Simpson, and Sharon Kay Seymour.

Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made in Montez’s name to the Crossroads Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O.Box 868, Elgin, OK 73538. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.
