Obituary for Nancy L. Burns Nancy Lee Burns, 79, of Beloit, WI, died on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Cedar Crest Health Care Center, Janesville, WI. She was born on July 2, 1939 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Irving and Kathyrn (Cottingham) Churchill. Nancy was a 1957 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School.

She married her high school sweetheart, Donald Duane Burns on August 16, 1959. He predeceased her on June 4, 2014. Nancy was a hairdresser for 50 years, working at eight salons over the years.

She loved to travel to their place up north on Lawrence Lake, which her family enjoyed for 25 years. Nancy and Duane went on cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. She traveled on several bus trips with her church group.

Some of her favorite places she traveled were Canada, the East Coast, Florida, and New Orleans. Nancy loved to cook and bake. She always made plenty to share and baked lots of pies for her neighbors and family; five to seven at a time and then went on her pie route to get rid of them.

Nancy started the first Red Hat group in Beloit: The Red Hot Flashers. They still hold a good membership of 20 members. She had many parties for any reason to get a group to come over and feed them.

Nancy kept her dining room set with settings for every occasion. She had a bun basket with shellacked buns all the time. When her grandchildren came, they would say “Is this the real buns?

Do we get to eat them? ” She enjoyed her time with her grandkids and they lived so close they could walk through the field to get to Grandpa and Grandma’s. Thanks to all my friends & neighbors for making my life what it was.

I loved all of you! “Honey I never knew it would take so long to be with you again. I love you so much”.

Survivors include her children, Vickey (Michael “Jack”) Bennington and Robby (Joyce) Burns; grandchildren, Cody (Ashley) Bennington, Seth (Lisa) Bennington, Rayce (Brandi) Burns, Austin (Brittany) Burns, Mackenzie (Evan) Bouc, and Spencer (Lauren) Burns; great grandchildren, Landon, Brynlee, Hudson, Quinn, Ruger, Remi, Keegan, and Lyla; special friend, Wayne Shelton; and her puppy, Rosie who she loved very much; and many other special friends.
