Nancy LaVone Rees, 87, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri joyously reunited with her husband of 68 years on Sunday, January 27, 2019. She was born September 6, 1931 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to John William and Nancy Sfronia Ballard O’Howell. She and Wesley D. Rees were married July 31, 1948 at Piggott, Arkansas.
He preceded her in death on March 14, 2017. She attended First General Baptist Church. Survivors include her one daughter, Ruth Ann (Steve) Lane of Cape Girardeau; one son, Gary Wayne (Anne) Rees of Jackson, Missouri; three grandchildren, Traci (Russ) Allbritton, Sara (Nick) Hobeck and Lisa Lane-Quigley (Zach Kennedy); seven great-grandchildren, David, Allison, Kaitlyn and Matthew Sturm, Aubrey and Lincoln Hobeck and Addison Quigley; two great-great-grandchildren, Paisley Sturm and Zoey Sturm; sister-in-law (wife of William), Mattie O’Howell; numerous nieces and nephews, including one special niece, Wilma McCain of Cape Girardeau who was more like a sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Mary, Helen and Nellie; and four brothers, Raymond, James, Willard and William. Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 am Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Jim Rudolph officiating.
Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family would like give a special thank you to the staff at Life Care for their loving care.
