Obituary for Nancy O. McIntyre Nancy (Odin) McIntyre died peacefully on April 21, 2018 from complications of the flu and pneumonia. She was the beloved wife of the late James L. McIntyre, her high school sweetheart. Nancy was the daughter of the late Louise (Hofer) Odin and Clifford A. Odin, born in New Britain on April 29, 1925.
She grew up in West Hartford and graduated from Hall High School, in the class of 1943. Nancy and Jim were married in 1947, after her graduation from Mary Washington College. Together, they raised three loving and devoted daughters: Marcy McIntyre Klattenberg and her husband Ron of East Falmouth, MA, Elizabeth M. Lomas of Lyme, CT and Laura McIntyre of South Glastonbury, CT.
She leaves six adoring grandchildren: Sara Klattenberg Lowe of Riverton, WY, Michael J. Klattenberg and his wife Alma of Youngsville, NC, Erin Siegal McIntyre of Mexico, Amanda Siegal Moore and her husband Nathaniel of Burlington, VT, Corey J. Lomas of Singapore, and Henry T. Lomas of Lyme, CT. Nancy was thrilled to recently welcome three great grandchildren into her life: Sofia Paloma McIntyre, Julian A. Klattenberg and Theo M. Moore. She had just received the news of a fourth great grandchild, due in November.
Nancy and Jim were instrumental in the formation of the West Hartford Land Trust with their donation of the first parcel, to help protect the Trout Brook Watershed. She was an ardent advocate for animal welfare and cared deeply for a succession of adopted rescue cats and dogs throughout her life. Spring was her favorite season and she loved working in her extensive perennial gardens, going on wildflower walks, and bird watching.
An avid reader, she instilled a love of literature to her daughters and grandchildren. For many years, Nancy enjoyed playing bridge and volunteering at the UCONN Healthcare Center Thrift Shop. As an enthusiastic Husky fan, she looked forward to basketball season and rarely missed a UCONN Women’s game.
Nancy will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to her wonderful caregiver, Vivienne and the staff at the McAuley, where she resided for the last five years. A Funeral Service will be held on May 4th at 11:00, at St James’s Episcopal Church, 1018 Farmington Ave, West Hartford, CT.
Burial will be private.
