MADISON- Nancy Y. Anderson, age 57, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. Nancy was born on March 1, 1961, and was a longtime Monona resident. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1980, where she was awarded a certificate of achievement in recognition of attainments in Special Education – Biology.

Nancy proudly served as a Special Olympics Wisconsin volunteer for more than 20 years. She was recognized for her service with several awards including the Volunteer Gold Medal… Read More » Club Award in 1984, Certificates of Appreciation in 1985 and 1986, and the Special Olympics Wisconsin Award of Excellence in 1998. Nancy was a devoted Milwaukee Brewers fan and a major highlight of her life was throwing out the first pitch to her favorite player, Paul Molitor, in 1983.

She was an avid cat lover, especially her beloved cat Mocha, and beanie baby collector, periodically sending beanie babies she no longer desired to children’s shelters to share her love of them with others. Nancy also enjoyed going through the Wisconsin State Journal each day, doing crafts, and shopping. Nancy faced immeasurable adversity in her life with courage, strength, and minimal compliant, continually defying expectations for which her family is immensely proud.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents who cherished her deeply, Russell E. Anderson in 1978, and Arlene Y. Anderson in 2016. She will be lovingly remembered by her remaining family, sister, Linda Anderson-Courtney (Tom Courtney); brother, Jim (Vicki); and nieces Kelsey and Sari; in addition to many cousins, relatives, and family friends who lovingly supported Nancy throughout her life. Her family would like to thank the many members of “Team Nancy” and acknowledge the care given to Nancy by the staff of Emmanuel Family Home, Fresenius Medical Care, and Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek, as well as the team at MARC East in Madison.

A private memorial service was held. We ask that in celebration of Nancy’s life, memorial gifts be made to Special Olympics Wisconsin or MARC East in her name. Online condolences may be made at www.
