Obituary for Norma “Jean” Herbert Norma “Jean” Herbert, 82 of New Castle went peacefully to Heaven on Friday, January 11, 2019 while surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 3, 1937 in Clinton, KY to the late Edgar and Grace (Hatcher) Miller. She had been employed at New Castle State Hospital as a nurse’s aide for 17 years.

Jean was an active member of First Church of the Nazarene in New Castle, where served as leader of the Joy Club for 9 1/2 years. She also received the Distinguished Service Award, volunteered at Pregnancy Care Center, Henry County Hospital gift shop and Hospice. She attended Bible Study Fellowship, and enjoyed traveling and mission trips to Haiti with Oriental Mission Society.

Her life revolved around the Lord, her family and her many caring friends. She loved to go to the activities that the grandchildren and great grandchildren were in. Jean also loved to do a card ministry for those who needed it.

She was a member of the Avondale Sympathy Club. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of over 66 years, Robert “Bob” Herbert, whom she married August 23, 1952; her daughters, Kathy Grace (Clyde) Powers of New Castle, Debbie Kay (Rocky) Alspaugh of Rushville; son, Mike (Karen) Herbert of Ft. Wayne; grandchildren, Lori (Brent) Lucas of New Castle, Lisa (Jay) Richmond of Indianapolis, Ryan (Jen) Alspaugh of Thompson’s Station, TN, Reid Alspaugh of Rushville, Megan (Billy) Waters of Laotto, and Rachel Herbert (fiance, Daniel Gschwend) of Ft.

Wayne; great grandchildren, Sarah Grace Lucas, Jacob Riley Lucas, Addison Jean and Ella Katherine Richmond, Jasper Arlo and Willow Reagan Alspaugh and Leonardo Vaughn Waters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Witham and Doris Herbert. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at First Church of the Nazarene in New Castle with Rev.

Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial will follow in Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Monday, January 14, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
