Mr. Norman N. Kirkendoll Sr. 83, of Nokomis, IL formerly of Kincaid, IL passed away 7:15 am Wednesday February 14, 2018 while living at Nokomis Rehabilitation and healthcare. Norman was born February 5, 1935 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Clarence Wm. “Pete” And Virginia Marie (Baldon) Kirkendoll.

Norman married Edna Mae “Bostick”-Hardin on July 30, 1955 in Birmingham, AL. She preceded him in death December 23, 2017. Norman was a graduate of Kincaid High School class of 1952.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July of 1952 retiring after 20 years served. He was a Korean War Veteran and a Vietnam War Veteran. After returning to Kincaid, he became a coal miner and retired from Peabody Mine #10 after 20 more years.

Norman worked for the village of Kincaid as the Dog Catcher for awhile. At one time, Norman and Edna were into the CB Craze. His handle was “AnchorClanker” and Edna’s was “Southern Belle”.

Norman liked to hunt with his brother Kenny every chance he got, especially when he was home on leave from the Navy. After all the years of salt water fishing while in the Navy, Norman grew to enjoy the calmness of fresh water fishing. Surviving are 3 sons, Norman (Sherry) Kirkendoll Jr. of FL, Kevin Kirkendoll and Jeffery (Jamie) Kirkendoll all of Kincaid IL, 6 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Edna Mae, a son Martin Kirkendoll, 2 brothers Kenny and Mickie Kirkendoll, and 2 sisters Thelma Dale, and his special baby sister Kathy “Kirkendoll” Smith. The family has chosen Masterson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Kincaid, IL to assist them with arrangements. Norman’s remains will be cremated and his ashes interred with Full Military Salutes and Honors by the United States Navy and the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton, IL at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday February 21, 2018.
