Obituary for Ollie Belle Palmer Watkins Ollie Belle Palmer was born in Thorpe, West Virginia on March 4, 1930 to Dennis C. Palmer and Martie W. Palmer. She became Ollie Belle Palmer Watkins on August 15, 1950 when she married Blair F. Watkins. She was a devoted member at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and her God given talent was music and playing the piano, and she served as pianist at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for over fifty years.

She also served as pianist for Mt. Valley Baptist Church for a period of time. Ollie Belle loved giving of herself to help others out and in doing so, she worked as a nurse at Wilkes General Hospital, Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Alexander County Hospital, and completed her nursing career at Tyson (previously known as Holly Farms) in the Medical Department.

Ollie Belle was not one to just sit around and not help others. She knew there was more to do with her life and she chose to come out of retirement to work at Wilkes Community College in the Department of Learning Rerdzt/s; Adult Basic Education. She also worked at Wilkes Community College Child Development Center.

To complete her working career, she worked at Wilkes Development Day School as a foster grandparent. She was preceded in death by her husband Blair Watkins on May 12, 2011; her grandparents, Cyrus and Mary Palmer and Rev. Robert Boone “R.B.” Watts and Regina Fiemster; her parents, Dennis and Martie Palmer; three brothers (infant) Marvin Gene, Raymond Palmer, Dennis “June” Palmer; one sister, Willis Palmer Stokes.

Ollie was called home, April 28, 2018, where she is now reunited with her husband, Blair. She leaves to cherish her loving memories four sons; Anthony B. “Toney” (Denise) Watkins of Pensacola, FL. , Johnny T. (Jeanette) Watkins of North Wilkesboro, NC, Marty S. (Deardria) Watkins of North Wilkesboro, NC, and William K. “Billy” (Andera) Watkins of Cricket, NC; one daughter, Shirlene W. (Al) Hurtado of Henderson, NV.

; two sisters, Mary H. (James) Brown of Charlotte, NC and Teressa Hill of Ronda, NC; two brothers, Bobby Palmer of Atlanta, GA and Sylvester (Cleo) Palmer of Brooklyn, NY; a family friend who’s thought of as a son, David (Shelida) Hamilton; sixteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. The Watkins family gratefully acknowledges and deeply appreciates your prayers, visits, flowers and cards. Thank you for the many acts of kindness extended to us during this time of sorrow.
