Obituary for Opal Dovie Burchfield OPAL DOVIE BURCHFIELD August 13, 1929 – May 16, 2018 Opal Dovie Burchfield passed away on May 16, 2018 after several years of declining health. She was 88, born August 13, 1929, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to Ernest A. and Anna Bell Brown. Opal and her four siblings enjoyed life on their Oklahoma farm until June 1944, when the family moved to Vallejo for jobs on Mare Island working for the war effort.

Opal graduated from Vallejo High School in 1947 and married Dewitt Pink Burchfield on April 12, 1950. They were married 58 years and enjoyed many years of golf before Pinky’s death in April 2008. Opal worked from 1951 to 1981 as a telephone operator for Pacific Bell Telephone Company in Vallejo.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Anna Brown, her sisters, Rochelle Johnson and Vera Moody, and her brothers Paul G. Brown and Meredith Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Sue (Paul) Sindelar of Upland, CA, and her son, David (Lynn) Burchfield of Benicia, CA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Andria (Brady) Gamble, Michael (Angelica) Sindelar, Christine Burchfield, and Brian (Vienna) Burchfield, and six great grandchildren.

Opal attended Vallejo’s First Assembly of God Church, was a member of the Vallejo Moose Club, Communication Pioneers of America, and Blue Rock Springs Women’s Golf Club. Graveside services will be held 12 noon Thursday, May 24 at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery, 2201 Sacramento St., Vallejo. A reception will immediately follow.
