Opal’s Obituary Opal L. Carleton, 84 of Paxton, passed away at 11:52 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2019, at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2019, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton with Rev. Tom Jones officiating.

Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton. Visitation will be two hours before the service from 12:00-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Opal was born December 14, 1934 in Monticello, Kentucky the daughter of William B. and Ida May Hardwick Thompson.

She married Harold E. Carleton September 24, 1954 in Corinth, Mississippi. He preceded her in death December 14, 2012. She is survived by three daughters, Brenda (Kevin) Glazik of Paxton, Tammy Carleton of Paxton, Sandy (Dale) Horn of Farmington; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister, Marie Phillips of Wakeman, Ohio; a brother, Estel (Wanda) Thompson of Monticello, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Betty Clark, Ora Bertram, Rosetta Watson. Opal was a Certified Nurses Aid for more than 30 years having worked at Illinois Knights Templar Home for several years and retiring from Ford County Nursing Home. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and Illini basketball and would always get excited to see a cardinal in her yard.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or an organization of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be offered at www.
