Opal Maxine (Harmes) Carel, 90, Beatrice, died Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the Beatrice Community Hospital. She was born in Beatrice and lived here all her life. Opal graduated from Beatrice High School in 1945 then married Leland Carel August 17, 1946 at the Presbyterian Church in Beatrice.

She worked for Swift & Co. and helped clean houses. Opal enjoyed Monday Night Wrestling, cards, board games, Sunday brunch with her family, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include children, Mary (Michael) Oblinger, Richard Carel, Michael (Bobbie) Carel, Jane Carel, Timothy (Billie) Carel, all of Beatrice; 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Betty Davis of Albany, OR and Doris Meckem of Beatrice.

She was preceded in death by parents, George and Laura (Vandergrift) Harmes; husband Leland (2008); son, Randy Carel; brothers, Harry and Bob Harmes; sisters, Velma Harmes, Viola Spanjer, and Thelma Kinaman. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice with Lt. Joseph and Lt.
