Opel Watson Sells, 93, of Richfield, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center in Albemarle. Mrs. Sells was born March 30, 1925 the late Walter Earnest and Hilah Theadus Watson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Sammie Lee Sells; two infant sons, Aubrey Brian Sells and Neal Garrett Sells; brothers, Coy Lee Watson, Roy Clay Watson Palmer Watson; sisters, Annie Agnes Watson, Gladys Estelle Earnhardt, Ruby Watson Morgan, and Thelma Odessa Earnhardt.

Opel was a church pianist, a Sunday School teacher, and an overall active member of Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church. She was a strong woman of faith but will best be remembered as an avid babysitter, known affectionately as “Mommie Opel”. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 11:00 – 11:45 am at Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church in Gold Hill, 24732 Matton’s Grove Church Road.

The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm. Burial will conclude in church cemetery. Survivors include:sons, Ricky Lee Sells and wife Melinda of Yadkinville, Rodney Gilbert Sells and wife Connie of Gold Hill; daughter, Vickie Sells Miller and husband Jerry of Richfield; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Norma Watson of Concord.

Memorials may be made to Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church, Historical Fund, 24732 Matton’s Grove Church Road, Gold Hill, NC. 28071. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Sells family.
