Betty Lou Kuykendall Price, 83, Of Mount Gilead, Passed away Thursday, May 24 2018 at her home. Mrs. Price was born November 17, 1934 to the late William Reily And Lula Wilson Kuykendall. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Jack Kuykendall, Claude W. Kuykendall; sister, Margaret Kuykendall Pruitt; Niece, Sandra Faye Hubert.
Betty was a member of several organizations which included the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, and The National Society of Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, Beta Sigma Psi, International; National Secretaries Association, International; Cooper Caln Association; and The Olde Mecklenburg Genealogical society. She was most proud of her instrumental work as the DNA administrator where she helped numerous people across the world. She Held multiple Chapter Offices Positions, including but not limited to President, Vice President, and Treasurer.
She was also an avid student and teacher of Genealogy. Betty and her husband owned and operated several businesses over the years from which people may associate her with: Rolla-Rink (Charlotte, NC), Betty’s Gifts, Flowers and Cards (Albemarle, NC), and Uwharrie Sportsman (Mt. Gilead, NC).
Mrs. Price would want to be remembered for her research the she spent learning the various spellings of her maiden name, Kuykendall. She helped solve and prove the many lines from her Immigrant to New Amsterdam in New York in 1646. Also, to be Recognized for her affiliation with other family groups, especially, the Cooper Family of Sampson County, North Carolina from the Royal descent on her husband’s family.
Mrs. Price received several awards: Award of Appreciation from Olde Mecklenburg Genealogical Society; Award of Excellence from NC Society of Historians for work on the Olde Mecklenburg County, NC Heritage Booklet; Award of Excellence – NSDFPA. She is known for numerous writings and publications for following Genealogical Societies: Old Mecklenburg County, Buncombe County, Caldwell County, Henderson County, NC Society, Stanly County and Anson County. In addition to these works, she authored quarterly reports and drafted administrative documents.
Survivors include: husband, Samuel Edward Price, Jr; daughter, Brenda Price Campbell and daughter’s husband Stephen, Sr; son, Samuel Edward Price , III and wife Sharon; Grandchildren, Douglas L. Cunningham, Jr., Adam G. Campbell, Amber J. Campbell, Stephen R. Campbell, Jr., Ashley N. Campbell, Samuel E. Price, VI, Madison Price, Miranda Price, Justine Price, Zachary Price; great-grandchildren , Houston S. Cunningham, Kadin I. Campbell, Zachariah D. Cunningham; nieces, Linda Constance and Patricia Goode. Memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 1024 Albemarle Road, Suite 904, Troy, NC 27371.
