Obituary for Paul McKinstry Paul J. McKinstry, 82, a resident of Calumet passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Omega House in Houghton. He was born on April 5, 1936 in Laurium to James and Bernice (Stetter) McKinstry. He attended Sacred Heart High School and graduated with the Class of 1955.
Following high school, Paul enlisted with the United States Army serving from 1959-1961. He served in Korea from 1960-1961, and was honorably discharged in 1961. In 1962 he attended barber school in Detroit.
He worked with his father at his barber shop in Laurium where he began his career, retiring after 35 years. In 1963, he married Mavis Wickstrom at St. Mary’s Church. Paul was an avid motorcyclist.
He enjoyed collecting and riding Harley Davidsons. He was an avid rabbit hunter. He loved spending time out in the woods, and loved to snowshoe.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Paul was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, James and Bernice McKinstry, his sister, Gloria Myntti, and his daughter, Lynn Mattila.
He is survived by: His Wife: Mavis of Calumet His Son: James McKinstry of Laurium His grandson: Jacob Mattila of Hancock And several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Friday, July 6, 2018 from 10:00 to 10:45 am. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 6, 2018 at St. Paul the Apostle Church with Father Abraham Mupparathara to officiate.
