OBITUARY Pauline Edith Gilland Hayes December 25, 1921 – December 6, 2018 Pauline Edith Gilland Hayes, age 96, of Greeneville, passed away at Life Care Center of Greeneville December 6, 2018. Pauline was the eldest of seven children born to James Henry and Clephane Tweed Gilland. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Wesley Hayes, two brothers; Leonard Gilland (Mary Jo) and James C. Gilland (Romayne), sister, Charlie Faye Gilland Hawk (Max), and grandson Mark Hayes Ottinger.

She is survived by five children, Peggy Hayes Ottinger (Dallas) of Greeneville; Preston Hayes (Judith) of Glenview, IL; Phyllis Hayes Young (James) of Cincinnati, OH; Peter Paul Hayes (Kathy) of Medina, OH; and Pascal Hayes of Kamsar, Guinea, in Africa. Grandchildren include Ruth Ottinger LaFollette (Jeff), Sara Ottinger Brown (Keven), Aaron Ottinger (Melodie), Michael Ottinger, Brian Hayes, Kristin Hayes, Charlie Young (Leslie), Dan Young (Cindy), Rebecca Young, Mary Hayes, Wesley Hayes (Heather), Paul Hayes, Vicki Hayes Druley (Patrick), Gini Bistline (Damon), and Matthew Hayes (Amy), She was blessed with 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by two brothers: Robert Hugh Gilland (Betty) of San Antonio, Texas, and Walter Kyle Gilland of Greeneville; and sister, Freddie Ann Harris (William Emerson II) of Kershaw, South Carolina.

Pauline was a retired teacher who lived in the Glenwood community. She was an avid quilter and seamstress. Pauline attended Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church having served on various committees and as a church elder.

The family will receive friends at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home on Monday December 10 from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. and 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. The funeral will take place on Tuesday December 11 at 10:00 A.M. at Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church with Pastor Christine Bohn officiating. Interment will follow in the adjacent cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church c/o Marilyn Brumley – 5180 Warrensburg Rd – Greeneville TN 37743.
