Born June 24, 1929 in Engadine, Pauline was the youngest daughter of Gustave and Agusta Drefs. She graduated from Engadine High School in 1948 and began working at the post office in Engadine shortly after as a temp.

She later became a full time clerk and eventually retired as postmaster 39 years later. Pauline married Einar Strom in 1954 and raised two children. Her life centered around her family, her sisters, and grandchildren.

She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the VFW Post #8372 Ladies Auxiliary in Engadine. She loved to sing and enjoyed picking berries and wildflowers, sewing, and a good garage sale. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her son and granddaughters in Manistique and trips to her daughter’s in New York and Minnesota.

Health issues prompted Pauline to move to the Newberry Assisted Living Community in 2005, where she lived until 2017 when her health again caused her to move to Golden Leaves Nursing Home for a brief stay, then to Zumbrota Care Center so she could be closer to medical care and her daughter. While a resident in each, she enjoyed music programs, helped out others when she could, and was a favorite of the staff. Pauline is survived by her twin brother Paul (Dorothy) Drefs of Escanaba; son John Strom of Manistique and daughter Penny Hennes of Pine Island, MN; granddaughters Kathryn Strom of Germfask and Mary Strom of Manistique; twin great-grandsons Eric and Tyler Johnson.

She is preceded in death by her parents Gustave and Agusta Drefs, her husband Einar Strom, son-in-law Mike Hennes, daughter-in-law Mary (Marnie) Strom, siblings Willam Drefs, Wilma Dunagan, Otto Drefs, Hattie Comfort, Clara Ruest, Leopold Drefs, Hannah Brawley, Julia Archambeau, John Drefs, Frederich Drefs, Ethel Freeman, and eight other half-siblings. Friends may call at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Friday June 14, 2019 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Memorial services celebrating the life of Pauline will follow at 2:00 pm at the church with Pastor Arthur Bode officiating.

Interment will take place at the Engadine Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Seasons Hospice, 1696 Greenview Dr SW, Rochester, MN 55902 or to Newberry Assisted Living Community, 7966 Pamela Lane, Newberry, MI 49868 in her memory. Condolences may be expressed at www.
