Peggy Ann Myer, 80, of Pleasant Hill was born in Dayton to the late Edwin and Kathryn (Shaw) Keller on September 28, 1937 and passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 17, 2018. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Spud” Myer (1962), their son, Ralph Myer, daughter-in-law, Beth (Ruppert) Myer, son-in-law, Howard Harmon, and brother, Ed Keller. She shared the last 50 years with the love of her life, Eugene Rolf, who survives her.
She also leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Rick (Suzanne May) Myer of Pleasant Hill, Kayette (Steve) Wehunt of Troy, Cindy (John) Fitzwater of Tipp City, Renee (Bryan) Yeager of Tipp City and daughter-in-law, Lou Myer of Ashland, Kentucky, her beloved sisters Bonnie Rolf of Laura and Keley (James) Jones of Quincy, sister-in-law, Helen Keller of West Milton and special brother-in-law Rich Rolf. She was blessed with many grandchildren, Ben, Josh, Jake, Faith, Charity, Colby, Kristen, Amanda, Dalton, Destiny, Sarah, Crystal and Kyle as well as several great-grandchildren and close-knit extended family. Peg was a devoted homemaker providing a warm and inviting place for family and friends where no one entered or left without a hug.
Words cannot describe her stunning flower and vegetable gardens which she cultivated tenderly and from which she often canned the fruits of her labor. She fearlessly enjoyed the outdoors, sailing, boating, water-skiing and fishing along with other hobbies including woodworking, furniture refinishing & upholstery. She even acted as general contractor when building her dream home with Gene in 1976.
As a member of the Indian Lake Yacht Club, she enjoyed many years of sailing competitively and shared her knowledge by organizing numerous youth sailing camps. The cottage in Russells Point became an extension of her Pleasant Hill home, entertaining many family and friends of all ages. Frugal to the core, she could stretch a dollar into fabulous boating trips enjoyed with family and friends to her beloved Dale Hollow Lake, semi-annual trips to the Florida Keys, and many other adventures throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
An accomplished ballroom dancer, she instructed adult dance classes for over 40 years in Dayton, Troy, Piqua, and Sidney as well as Richmond, Indiana. She loved teaching in the 3rd floor ballroom at the Troy Hayner Cultural Center where she could be found almost every Wednesday night teaching beginners, intermediate, and advanced students. As the self-appointed family photographer, she left behind many precious memories in film and pictures.
She was a life-long member of Grace United Methodist Church in Dayton; very spiritual by nature, she found she was closest to God in her gardens and truly appreciated the Lord’s gift of beautiful sunrises and sunsets frequently capturing them at just the right moment with her camera. To memorialize Peg’s final sunset, an open house reception will be held on Wednesday, July 25th, 4-7 pm at the Troy Hayner Cultural Center. Arrangements are entrusted to Hale-Sarver Funeral Home in West Milton.
