Obituary for Peggy Hood Hallett Peggy H. Hallett, age 94, of Elizabethton, entered the gates of Heaven on Friday, November 9, 2018 from Broadmore Senior Living of Johnson City, Tennessee. She was born November 7, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA, the last child of the late Claude Watson Hood and Jane Saltsman Hood, who had lived in Oakmont, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Douglas Ayerst, Ben B. Gurtner, J. Henry Snyder and Robert J. Hallet; four brothers, Claude B. Hood, Joseph P. Hood, Kenneth W. Hood and David M. Hood; and one sister, Henrietta H. Norris.

Peggy had worked as a hearing aid specialist and had been a devoted member of the Episcopal Church for over 70 years and served at various times on the Vestry, chairperson for Cursillo, Crafts and Bazaar, initiated the Food and Comfort program. Her greatest joy, however, was serving on the Altar Guild and in this capacity, was chairman of the Memorial Garden and encouraged its restoration and enlargement. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Susan Ayerst Kiley, of Georgetown, KY; grandson, Zac Dixon and wife Lia and great granddaughter, Parker, of St. Augustine, FL; a son, Douglas I Ayerst and wife Jan, of Delray Beach, FL and their children, Rebecca L. Ayerst, of Santa Monica, CA, Katharine E. Ayerst, of Delray Beach, FL, Matthew D. Ayerst and wife Gabriella, of Santa Barbara, CA and Robert B. Ayerst, of Colorado.

Also surviving are her special caregivers, Robin Hodge, of Johnson City; special stepdaughters, Donna Wilson, of Plano, TX and Fran Arrington, of Zephryrhills, FL; and her friends from St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Eustis, FL and Trinity-by-the-Fields, Pace; other local family are nieces and nephews, Leslie Hardin and Jens, of Johnson City, Lynn Hardin, of Olive Branch, MS and Lewis and Vicki Hardin, of Suffolk, VA. It was Peggy’s wish to be cremated and no services are planned. Online condolences may be shared with the family on our website, www.
