Obituary for Archie Miller Barrett Sr. 1st Sgt. Archie M. Barrett, Sr., US Army, Ret. , 79 of Jonesborough, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Hawkins County, TN he is the son of the late Eb and Myrtle (Baker) Barrett. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his foster mother, Bessie Mae Jenkins; brothers, Junior, Richard, Sherman, and J.C. Barrett; sisters, Donna Jean Carlile and Wanda Kavenius; and son-in-law, Richard Staten. Archie proudly served his country in the US Army.

He spent two tours in Vietnam and earned a bronze star and Vietnam Service medal with four bronze stars. After retiring from the Army in 1981, he became an owner/operator truck driver until he retired. He was a 32nd degree Mason of Scottish Rite and a Shriner.

Archie was a devoted husband and father with a big heart, and, in his earlier years, loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling. Those left to cherish Archie’s memory include: wife, Patricia, of the home; children, Archie Barrett Jr. (Saundra) of Maryland and Kimberly D. Staten of Gray, TN; grandchildren, Aaron Barrett (Rita Geller), Loren Barrett (Brandi Short), Austin Barrett all of Maryland, Crystal Staten (Dustin Moody) of Kingsport, TN, Morgan Staten (Garret McClure) of Gray, TN, and Madison Staten Koontz (Samuel) of Washington state; great-grandchildren, Kylea Faith Staten, Kynlee Grace Moody, and Chase Wayne; and numerous nieces and nephews, especially nephew, Robert Kavenius, II.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kingsport Hematology and Oncology and the Johnson City Medical Center. The family will gather to receive friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City on Sunday, December 30, 2018 with a Celebration of Archie’s life immediately following with Pastor Kevin Rose officiating. A committal and interment service will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park, Kingsport, TN on Monday, December 31, 2018 at 10:00 am.
