Philip A. Smith, 70, of Chester, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, July 22, 2018, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born, November 19, 1947, in East Liverpool, he was the son of the late Russell G. and Ruth M. Haught Smith. Phil was a graduate of Oak Glen High School class of 1965.

He served in the Infantry Division of the Army in the Vietnam War. He was an active member of the Chester First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and was a long-time Trustee. With over 25 years of service, he retired from Weirton Steel Corporation in the hot mill where he worked as a Mill Wright.

He also later retired from the Chester Water Department, where he worked as a Water Waste Operator. Phil was very involved in the community. He served as a Master Mason out of the Masonic Lodge #22, was a member of the Weirton Steel Chorus, the Weirton Steel 25-year club, a lifetime member of the Chester VFW Post #2450 and a member of the Chester American Legion.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Susan Lyons Smith whom he married September 1, 1967; his daughters, Melanie Condon and her husband Michael of Charles Town, WV. , Karri Malson of Chester and Angela Cronin and her husband Dave of Chester; brother, Russell E. “Rusty” Smith and his wife Janice of Chester. The light of his life were his grandchildren, Emma Smith, Kylie Condon, Tyler Cronin, Elizabeth Condon, Jarren Nalley, Olivia Cronin and Natalie Cronin.

Pastor Kara Rowe will celebrate Phil’s life, Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at the Arner Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, July 24, at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, from 2-4:00 PM and 6-8:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Locust Hill Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the Chester Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Hillman Cancer Center 5115 Centre Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15232 or Chester First United Methodist Church 240 Carolina Avenue Chester, WV 26034.
