East Liverpool, OH. Thomas H. Dickey, 87 of Chester, WV. , passed peacefully at the Calcutta Health Care Center on Sunday, September 16, 2018, following a brief illness.

He was born in Newell, WV; on March 3, 1931, to the late Eugene V. and Gladys I. Brady Dickey. Tom spent his entire life in the Chester-Newell area and he retired as a maintenance technician at the Youngstown Cinder Plant. Earlier he worked at the Macintosh-Hemphill Steel Mill in Midland until it’s closing.

Tom had attended Wells High in Newell before entering the US Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Chester American Legion Post 121, VFW Post 6450, and the Newell Methodist Church. Tom was a member of the Oak Glen White Hats and he coached Pony League Baseball for nine years.

Also, he was a 32nd degree Mason. In addition to his parents, his wife, Eva Dickey and his brother, James Dickey preceded him in death. Surviving is his second wife, Deloris Jean Dickey; his children, Thomas W. Dickey and his companion, Patty of Pittsburgh, Karen Demers and her husband Robert of Virginia Beach, VA.

, and Janice Shockey and her husband Brian of Salem. Tom also leaves his step-daughter, Terri Welker and her husband, Denny of East Liverpool; brother, Richard Dickey of Williamstown, WV; and his grandchildren, Solyn Schroeder, and Rachael and Grace Shockey. Pastor John Bush will celebrate Tom’s life at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Thursday, September 20 at 1:30 p.m. Entombment will follow at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell where the Navy honor guard and the American Legion Post 121 and VFW Post 6450 honor guard will accord military honors.
