Langdeau, 65, of Lower Brule SD will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD with burial in the Langdeau Family Plot at Lower Brule. Wake services will be Saturday, Sunday, and Monday evening at 7:00 pm at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule. Philip Harvey Langdeau was born July 24, 1953 to Ellsworth Clayton Langdeau and Sylvia Ann Banks at the Community Bailey Hospital in Chamberlain, SD.

Philip (Ate’) began his spiritual journey on the morning of April 11, 2019 at his home in Lower Brule, SD where he was surrounded by his loving life partner, children, and grandchildren. Philip attended school at Lower Brule Elementary from kindergarten through the 5th grade, Pierre Indian School from 6th to 8th grade, and Flandreau Indian School for his high school years graduating in May of 1972. After high school, he attended Black Hills State College for the first semester of his freshman year.

During his elementary and high school years, he was an avid basketball player and continued to play on several independent basketball and softball teams after graduating high school. All those who knew and loved him also knew of his love and skill for basketball He returned home and began his employment with the Indian Action Program for six years. He worked for the Lower Brule Propane Company for eight years then with Lower Brule Employment Enterprise until he retired in July of 2014.

In August of 1973, he began his life journey with Sadie Pretty Sounding Flute and to this partnership six children were born Aaron D. Pretty Sounding Flute, Sylvia (Damian) Grassrope, Amiel A. Pretty Sounding Flute, Joy Velda Langdeau, Arielle Ilene Langdeau, and Darian Dion Langdeau. During their 45 years of unity, he was blessed with 23 grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Philip was a loyal fan and supporter of all the Lower Brule Athletes of both the Lower Brule High School Basketball and Football teams.

He went to all the games at home and away. He was honored as one of their most loyal fans at the Dakota Nation Invitational Tournament in Rapid City. Philip was a loving and caring father, grandfather, and life partner who worked hard to support his family.

He loved and respected all his family and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded on his journey by his father and mother, brother Leonard A. Langdeau; sisters Betty Jo Skunk and Renee (Chrity) McClain; uncles Marlo and Harvey (Snooky) Langdeau, Ceil Banks, Philip Banks Jr., and Melvin Banks; aunts Juanita (Bobby) Isburg, Velda (Willy) Quilt, Mary Shields, and Josephine Banks; cousins Jackie (Mike) Jandreau, Rita Langdeau, Robin LaRoche, Lana LaRoche, Sam LaRoche; paternal grandparents Harvey Sr. and Aldeana Langdeau; maternal grandparents Philip Sr. and Elizabeth Banks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
