Rachel Lee Givens passed away at the age of 74 peacefully at her residence, around her loved ones, in South Bend, IN the evening of Tuesday January 15, 2019. Ms. Givens was born on December 5, 1944 in Catron, Missouri to the late George A. and Janie B. (Brown) Anderson. She later relocated to Indiana from Missouri around the year of 1969.

Rachel was a hard-working woman that dedicated 38 years tenure to AM General, retiring in 2012. Formerly a member of New Hope Missionary Church where she served many years on the usher board. She later became a member at Greater St. Matthew Church making this her church home, always making sure to keep close to God.

Ms. Givens loved to cook and was well known for her amazing cooking skills. These skills tied in with her motherly spirit gained her a wealthy amount of additional children and grandchildren throughout the neighborhood. She had a desire at heart to help anyone in need.

Ms. Givens always extended an open door & heart to family, friends and even strangers. She wouldn’t allow for anyone to be left out in the cold, always offering food, clothing and shelter. Here is where she gained her neighborhood title as “Momma G”.

Ms. Givens will be deeply missed by each and every person she has ever interacted with. She was an overly loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Rachel is survived by her loving children: Kitral J (Cynthia) Givens of Minneapolis, MN; Anthony S. Givens; Sheila (Edward) Anderson; George E. (Roniela) Givens; and her baby boy Brian D., Givens all of South Bend, IN.

Also left to cherish Rachel’s memory is her sister Rosie (Jimmy) Scales; cousin Marilyn (Micheal) Love; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; God brother Big George T. Hill; good friend Arthur (Sonny) Bell; and an overloading host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Deshawn “ Shawnie” Givens; sister Osice Anderson; and brothers Eugene & Richard Anderson. Services for Ms. Rachel Lee Givens will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 1:00pm at Greater St. Matthew Church (2705 Marquette Blvd.

, South Bend, IN 46628). Friends may call on the family for visitation for one hour prior to service at the church. Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
