Interment will be held following services at the White Hill Cemetery, north of Minden. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Randy was born on August 10, 1952 in Minden, Nebraska to Clifford and Phyllis (Hammer) Petersen.

He grew up on the farm north of Minden and attended Minden Public Schools. He married Ada Petersen on January 17, 1970. They have two children, Brian and Jodi.

Randy grew up attending St. John Catholic Church and in recent years reconfirmed his faith when joining St. Paul Lutheran Church. He worked on the Petersen farm most of his life. He loved raising cattle.

He was, in many ways, a self-taught man. If a job needed to be done or he had a new interest he wanted to take up, he read about it and learned from others until he knew how to do it himself. He also enjoyed teaching others the things he learned.

He was an avid car lover. He worked on classic cars and stock cars, building and racing his own cars. He enjoyed being a part of the racing community at Mid-Nebraska Speedway at Doniphan.

He also belonged to the Kearney County Classics car club in Minden. Randy raised and trained Quarter Horses and helped with the horse 4-H club in Minden. For many years, Randy enjoyed country western dancing with Ada, and they belonged to Platte Valley Dancers in Kearney.

Over the years, he helped family and friends with numerous construction projects. He enjoyed politics and loved to engage in lively discussions. He supported Minden Special Olympics and for a time served on the board of Mid Nebraska Individual Services in Kearney.

He was a dedicated family man and a loyal friend. He was always there to help someone in need. He is survived by his wife Ada of Minden, son Brian of Minden; daughter, Jodi of Lincoln; granddaughter, Olivia of Lincoln; brothers, Bruce (Tammy) and Boyd (Caryn), both of Minden.

He has numerous nieces and nephews; he especially appreciated his nephew Jeff (Lauren) Petersen as he was always quick to help Randy as his health declined. He was preceded in death by his parents Cliff and Phyllis, and brother Dennis. The family offers special thanks to AseraCare Hospice of Kearney.

With your support and dedicated care, we were able to honor Randy’s final wish. Also, thanks to the staff of Kearney County Health Services and Kearney Regional Hospital, as well as, the volunteers of the Minden Fire Department. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
