Raymond Lawrence Wild Jr. of Seeley Lake, MT, formerly of Montgomery, NY, passed away Monday, June 11, 2018, in Montgomery. He was 57. We lost so much on Monday, we lost our dear Bummer and suddenly there is a giant hole in the hearts and lives of so many people.
So many of us will be forever grateful for his friendship and will forever feel that things just aren’t quite right in a world without Bummer in it. There was something about this gentle giant that just simply drew one to him – It was his smiling eyes, his genuine laughter, his admirable humility, his hugs and handshakes that felt so darned good, his booming voice and his kind words, and his curiosity. It was simply his love of life and his love of people and animals that made each and every person who met Bummer want just a little more time to enjoy his company.
Bummer was born into this world as the tiniest of babies, to Raymond Wild, Sr. and Florence Cornish Wild, on August 24, 1960 then came home in a shoebox to the family farm on West Searsville Road in Montgomery NY, where he grew so big and so strong and so beautiful. Bummer left this world on June 11, 2018 at that same childhood home on West Searsville Road in Montgomery, NY. Full circle, a life well lived!
Bummer filled his days with family, friends and his love of food and of the outdoors. He was a sportsman of every season from ice fishing, to coon hunting, deep sea fishing to deer hunting. He was a good shot and a very lucky fisherman, never bragging too much, but just enough to keep us all smiling.
He was not just good at shooting or catching animals, but Bummer was an expert at treating all living things with gentleness and respect. From huge thoroughbred horses & baby calves to coon dogs & his lil pal Buster somehow the animals just knew that they were safe with Bummer. And food…oh Bummer and food it was a love affair of the best kind, he loved to garden, to shop, to cook and most of all to eat!
His final act of love and respect to animals and to his garden was to prepare food creatively and eat it with gusto! All living things need love and Bummer had a lot of love to give. As far as Daddies go, well, Bum was pretty great.
The adoration and pride he had for Ashley and Raymond was a beautiful thing to see. Bummer was so lucky these last few years to start a new life in Oregon with his children by his side, each of them guiding one another, loving one another and exploring a whole new world together. Ashley and Raymond are some very lucky kids to have been blessed with a daddy like Bummer, and they know it, and Bummer was never shy to tell anyone how blessed he was to have Ashley and Raymond.
Bummer leaves behind far too many to mention but please keep his children, his Sister Debbie and Brother Wayne in your thoughts as we all try to navigate the future without Bummer. It is hard to single out family members with a guy like Bummer because to him every friend was family and every family member a friend. So, as we move forward – Deal a hand of cards, turn up the music & tell someone you love them, because that’s what Bummer would want us to do!
