Raymond R. McGaughey, 79, of Monticello, died Saturday, January 12, 2019. Mr. McGaughey was a native of Memphis, Tennessee; a resident of Monticello for the past six years and a former resident of Johnsville and Hamburg. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post #4515.

Mr. McGaughey worked for Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Company for 35 years and served as an Officer in the local Woodmen Lodge. In his role as a representative of Woodmen of the World, he gave hundred’s of American flags to many churches and different organizations. He was a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church and was always active and worked in the churches he attended.

Mr. McGaughey was a member of the Christian Motorcyclist Association and participated in many events that they sponsored. Raymond was a family man and loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Ruohs and Thelma Daniel McGaughey and two step-sons, Ninuel “Jr.

,” Lay and Kenny Avery. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sonja Patricia Smith McGaughey of Monticello; his daughters, Jeanette Smith and husband, Jerry, of Sherwood and Ramona S. Standridge and husband, Michael, of Greenbrier; his grandchildren, Michelle Hamilton of San Antonio, Texas, Alora Smith, Jeremy Smith both of Sherwood, Regan H. Lay of Snyder and Fisher Standridge of Greenbriar and two great-granddaughters, Madison Fowlkes and McKinley Apple both of San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2019, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro.

Tim Parks and Bro. Kenny Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery with Military Honors.

Pallbearers are Jeff Price, John Dunn, Robert Neely, Tom Mathews, Tommy King and Scott Kinard. Honorary pallbearers are David Neely, Bill Skidmore, Tanner Skidmore, Harold Nix, Charles Berryman and Johnny Pierce. Memorials may be made to the New Life Assembly of God Church Building Fund, PO Box 1136, Monticello, AR 71655.

Visitation will be 1 – 2 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
